Goal rate in KaDy Students' games had been low until Saturday's match, but today goals just flooded in. The match for the fifth place included a whopping fifteen goals, as the University of Malaga, the reigning champions and pre-tournament favorites, proved that their failure to make the semi-finals was an accident by beating KaDy Students 4-11 (3-2).
A look behind the sorry final score betrays a different story; having recovered from the Spanish early lead, KaDy scored three in a row through Kerkko Huhtanen, Jukka Kytölä and Sami-Pekka Eskonniemi. However, a successful ten meter free kick for Malaga in the last minute of the first half reduced the KaDy lead to just one goal.
The second half saw Malaga score four goals in ten minutes to open a three-goal lead. KaDy came back into the contention with Jussi Kaihlajärvi's goal, but the joy was short-lived as Malaga responded immediately. Final minutes saw the Spanish team embellish the numbers as KaDy had to attack with a high risk strategy; the last four goals Malaga scored inside just two last minutes of the game.
On Sunday, the final match day, KaDy will play for 7th position at 13:20 (Finnish time). The opponent will be the loser of the match between University of Nis (Serbia) and University of Evry Val Essonne (France).
